New Urbanism Videos

I ordered 6 hours of video from the Congress on New Urbanism (CNU) on New Urbanism 101. There are 4 tapes. I watched the first a couple of nights ago. The video quality is poor and the presentations rather dry (a video camera was setup at the back of the 9th annual meeting of the CNU and turned on). I think I will get a great deal of information on the history of the movement and also how American and European communities got themselves into the mess that is urban sprawl.

If any of you want to view the video you can pick up tape 1 on Saturday.

Perhaps Even Crazier

Derek, good post and yes we do need to keep our thinking going on this. I agree that worshipping together would be great. This would most easily be achieved by being closer together geographically, but could be accomplished in steps. We should work on a list of the ideal components of community and could then prioritize and make a projected timeline.

As we've said before, these are all big changes and decisions to make. We should research and plan accordingly.

I did not know that schools existed that partnered with home schoolers. Very interesting.

Honestly, my first thoughts about starting our own church stemmed from our afternoon at the Atrium. Charlie and I doing the music and Derek delivering a message. We don't necessarily need someone from Greyfriers, etc. to start a church, Derek just needs to get his ordination. If we got only a few more families to commit, we could pay a pastor's salary easily if we didn't have church building expenses to deal with in the beginning.

Not sure about the order, but perhaps we build a foundation with the church, next could be the para-school, and then a traditional neighborhood community and accompanying businesses.
